Winter sports at ROBINSON

When the first snow falls, many people are drawn to the mountains for a winter sports holidays. No wonder: there's no better way to make the most of the cold season than with skis on the slopes, a round or two on the cross-country ski trail or a good tobogganing session.

Skiing

The ski resorts in Austria are among the best in the world. When you carve down perfectly groomed slopes or the powder snow drifts up behind you, the feeling of happiness is included. Slopes of all levels of difficulty, modern lifts and versatile fun parks make your skiing vacation very varied. And if you stop off at a cozy mountain hut in between, your day's skiing is perfect. The best way for the youngest to discover the fun of skiing is on a children's ski course. Learning to ski is also possible for adults. On a ski vacation with a ski course for adults, you will feel more confident on the slopes from day to day. Experience the unique variety in Salzburger Land and Styria, for example. The Ski amadé ski area - Austria's greatest skiing pleasure. With one ski pass, you can enjoy up to 760 kilometers of fun on the slopes and use 270 modern lifts. There is something for everyone here and many slopes are suitable for beginners.

Snowboarding

Passionate snowboarders love feeling the centrifugal forces in the turns, having their hands free and also looking cool. When choosing your ski resort, snowboarders should look out for freeride areas, exciting snow parks and long runs that mean you rarely have to take your board off. For beginners who want to progress quickly, we recommend a snowboarding vacation with a course.

Cross-country skiing

Cross-country skiing in Austria gives you the opportunity to experience the magic of the snow-covered mountains in a particularly intense way. Cross-country skiing trains many different muscle groups and improves your fitness. You can glide through snow-covered valleys or over sun-drenched plateaus in a relaxed manner or do crisp laps at a faster pace. Spend your vacation in the mountains actively with cross-country skiing - either as a relaxed cross-country skiing vacation for beginners or as a sporting challenge.

Tips for your winter sports holidays

What should you bear in mind when preparing?
If you want to travel to one of the Austrian ski resorts around Christmas, Easter or during the holidays periods, you should book as early as possible. This will ensure you get the accommodation you want on these popular travel dates. And what do you actually need on a ski vacation? Whether skiing or snowboarding - you can either use your own equipment or hire suitable equipment on site. For a carefree day on the slopes, you will also need a functional winter jacket and trousers, thermal underwear, gloves and possibly a hat or balaclava under your helmet.

Winter holidays - what to take with you?
In addition to warm ski clothing, your packing list for your winter sports vacation should also include "normal" or slightly more stylish clothing for your stay and meals in the hotel. If your accommodation has an indoor pool or you would like to combine winter sports with wellness and visit a spa during your vacation in the mountains, swimwear is also a must. For a winter vacation with the whole family, a few board games are a must for a cozy evening.

How much does it cost to hire skis?
Hiring ski equipment costs around 35 euros per day. In return, you usually get state-of-the-art equipment. In addition, the journey - especially by bus or train - is much more relaxed with light luggage. If you are a beginner and are still unsure whether you want to start skiing "properly", hiring equipment is a good idea. Otherwise, the rule of thumb is: if you ski for two weeks or more per year, buying your own ski equipment is the cheaper choice.

What is a ski pass?
A ski pass is your "entry ticket" to a ski resort. It is a season ticket for all lifts and cable cars in a specific ski area or in an entire ski region. Access is usually contactless.

Winter holidays with children

A winter sports holidays is great fun for the whole family. Many families with small children like to travel to the mountains together with their grandparents: thanks to the loving care of the youngest children by grandma and grandpa, parents can enjoy skiing, cross-country skiing or snowboarding without a care in the world. Or let your little ones spend an eventful time with their peers in the professional childcare at your hotel. Children from the age of four can take part in a ski course.

They'll soon be proud to show you how well they've mastered the plough and other equipment - and their enthusiasm for winter sports will be awakened. Time for shared experiences is very important on a winter holidays with the family: Older children naturally love to join you on the ski slopes. But a fun toboggan ride, ice skating or a leisurely ride in a horse-drawn sleigh are just as much fun.
