Sustainability at ROBINSON

We are ROBsponsible!

On holiday, we celebrate the joy of life. Here at ROBINSON, we also take our responsibility towards the people in our clubs and the regions where we operate very seriously. With ROBsponsible, we have developed a commitment programme that implements specific projects in all our clubs on topics such as resource conservation, local communities and the preservation of natural habitats. Through many small, individual projects, we are making our contribution – and are constantly working to reduce our impact on the environment and local communities.

These projects focus on the following areas:

  • Energy and water consumption
  • Emissions and waste
  • Recycling, reuse and the circular economy
  • Staff training, education and professional development
  • Digitalisation

Travelling to the most beautiful places in the world – whilst keeping in mind the impact of one’s own holiday. This awareness is increasingly shaping the travel decisions of many people.

Tourism affects many areas at once: the protection of the climate and natural resources, the living conditions of people in host regions, and the preservation of local landscapes and cultures.

Global challenges such as climate change and the scarcity of natural resources make it clear that the tourism industry, too, is called upon to play its part. At ROBINSON, we take this responsibility seriously and are working to gradually reduce our impact on the environment and local communities through targeted measures in our clubs.

At ROBINSON, we are mindful of our responsibility as a global company. Our ROBsponsible initiatives include specific projects: in our clubs, we use our own solar power systems to generate energy, work closely with local partners and suppliers, and are involved in a local turtle conservation programme. In this way, we do our bit to preserve the regions where we are based for guests, staff and local communities.

ROBsponsible stands for concrete action – in our clubs, in our regions, for people and nature.

  • We are implementing targeted measures to reduce energy and water consumption in our clubs, as well as to cut emissions and waste.
  • We regularly review which technical solutions can help us achieve our consumption and emissions targets.
  • Our staff receive regular training so that they can play an active part in achieving these targets.

  • We adhere to the principles of the circular economy wherever this is feasible within our business:
  • When selecting products and materials, we prioritise durability, reusability, repairability and the potential for upgrading.
  • We actively reduce the use of single-use products and replace them, where possible, with durable alternatives.
  • In addition, we use digital solutions to monitor and manage resource consumption effectively.

  • We invest in regular training and professional development for our staff so that they can carry out their duties using up-to-date knowledge and skills.
  • We actively involve local partners and producers in our procurement and operational processes, thereby contributing to economic development in the regions where we operate.
  • Through location-specific projects and initiatives, we make our contribution to the respective local community.

Our measures in the clubs

A dedicated ROBINSON Environmental Officer, the managers at our clubs and regular training sessions for our staff ensure that we continually build on our knowledge and systematically expand our environmental and community projects at the clubs.

We’re happy to show our guests exactly what we’re doing: during your holiday, we’d love to invite you to take a ‘behind-the-scenes’ look at your club.

ROBINSON APULIA

Project: Photovoltaics

Display more

ROBINSON APULIA has been generating electricity from solar energy since 2017: 3,280 solar panels with a total capacity of 1 MWp are installed on the club’s roofs and the carport. The system generates 1.131 GWh of electricity from renewable sources annually, making it, as things stand, the most powerful photovoltaic system of all TUI clubs worldwide.

Other ROBINSON clubs are also turning to solar energy for electricity generation: ROBINSON DAIDALOS, ROBINSON QUINTA DA RIA, ROBINSON CALA SERENA, ROBINSON IERAPETRA and ROBINSON NOONU already have their own photovoltaic systems. Further systems are planned for the ROBINSON CABO VERDE and ROBINSON MALDIVES clubs.

ROBINSON MALDIVES

Project: Water bottling and composting plant

Display more

In the Maldives, the responsible use of resources and the reduction of waste are particularly important – as an archipelago with limited infrastructure and a natural environment worthy of protection.

ROBINSON MALDIVES is implementing concrete measures in this context, thereby helping to conserve local resources.

One example: the club produces drinking water on-site. This yields 7,500 litres of fresh water every week, which is bottled in glass bottles and carbonated – entirely without the use of single-use plastic bottles. The slogan for this is: “14,000 drops of sparkling island water”. Furthermore, food waste at the club is converted into nutrient-rich compost using a composting machine. This is used as a natural fertiliser on the surrounding islands – thus turning kitchen waste into a raw material for local agriculture.

ROBINSON CALA SERENA

Project: Water dispenser

Display more

ROBINSON CALA SERENA and ROBINSON QUINTA DA RIA were the first clubs in the ROBINSON portfolio to introduce water dispensers – as an alternative to single-use plastic bottles. Today, almost all ROBINSON clubs have water dispensers: either connected to the mains (point-of-use) or using gallon bottles (bottled water coolers).

You can top up your bottles at various locations around the club as you wish – chilled, still or sparkling. The water dispensers replace single-use plastic bottles in the club, thereby reducing the amount of plastic waste generated, whilst also being more cost-effective.

ROBINSON SARIGERME PARK

Project: Guinea fowl

Display more

At the ROBINSON SARIGERME PARK on the Turkish Riviera , mosquitoes are kept at bay in a rather unusual way: with guinea fowl.

The birds roam freely across the club grounds and eat insects – without the use of any chemical insecticides. This reduces the number of mosquito bites for guests whilst, at the same time, avoiding the use of pesticides on the club grounds.

For our guests, the guinea fowl have long been more than just a practical measure: their peaceful wandering across the open spaces is part of the club’s unique character and is enjoyed by many guests.

With this approach, ROBINSON SARIGERME PARK is replacing chemical pest control with an animal-based solution – a concrete step that benefits both guests and the club grounds alike.

Pause room cleaning & save water

Using the ROBINSON app, you can opt out of daily room cleaning on a day-by-day basis – it’s straightforward and doesn’t compromise on comfort.

Every time you skip a clean, you save water and cleaning products. The figures speak for themselves: since this feature was introduced, over 275,000 litres of water have already been saved – that’s the equivalent of more than 1,800 bathtubs filled to the brim. Less cleaning also means fewer cleaning products ending up in the wastewater.

You decide when your room is cleaned – we give you the opportunity to make a tangible contribution to conserving water and resources with just a tap of your finger.
